We had a York Affinity 9.C installed about 3 years ago. It is a great furnace. There is one problem, when it comes on in the morning it is extremely loud. When we first had it installed I spoke to the Dealer about it, and he said it was normal, and it was in a higher mode to heat the house faster. Is there any way it can be adjusted to quiet it down? Thanks, Ron Carrera

    Hi Ron,

It will be loud when the full system is pumping out its maximum output. To remedy this you could set the temperature to a more stable temperature and then it wouldn’t have to kick in on maximum in the morning. I assume you are using a programmable thermostat and dropping the temperature in the overnight by a few degrees?

I’ve had a York Affinity 9C for about 5 years in Denver. Initially, they had to swap out a pressure switch to account for elevation here because the problem below developed, and it worked fine up until last week. The problem: the inducer motor starts, the igniter glows, but there doesn’t seem to be enough airflow in the combustion chamber to trigger the gas to flow and ignite. So it shuts down (3 flashing red lights for trouble code). But if I squeeze the plastic air tube to the inducer motor fan housing and make the motor run faster, the furnace works fine. We swapped the pressure switch again to no avail. Now they want to replace the whole inducer motor assembly ($450). Is this really the problem? To make it run for now, I used a binder clip to restrict (not kink entirely closed) the tubing and it all works fine. Could I leave it like this and save $450?

I’m not saying that the entire inducer motor assembly is the problem, but I’m thinking that a binder clip to restrict the airflow is not a good long term solution. I would either get another tech in to check things out or go with their suggestion.
